Nintendo Might Finally Be Racing Ahead With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Wave 2 DLC | Nintendo Life

Japan 7-Eleven advert appears to have provided a hint

We're now in July, and there's still no sign of the second Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC wave, so what's going on? Although Nintendo hasn't provided an update about when this next wave will be delivered, it seems fans have been able to work out some sort of time frame for this next DLC release.

As shown in a tweet by @PushDustIn, a recent 7-Eleven advert in Japan shows the Wave 1 courses and the DLC waves to come. Up in the top-right though, it's mentioned how this ad should no longer be displayed to the public by 17th July 2022. It's led to theories that an announcement could potentially be just around the corner.

This isn't the first time a banner advert in Japan has indicated Nintendo DLC is on the horizon. There were similar stories during the reveal of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter pass waves.

The original Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC wave contained a total of eight courses - taken from the mobile release and also various retro titles. Some of these tracks included Toad Circuit (3DS), Choco Mountain (N64), and even the fan-favourite Coconut Mall (Wii). All of these tracks and waves are set to be delivered by the end of 2023.

It's unknown at this stage what exact courses will be included in the next DLC wave for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but a datamine previously uncovered an updated booster course banner:

Are you looking forward to the next wave of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC tracks? Have you tried out the first wave yet? Tell us down in the comments.

Oh, thank heaven for 7-eleven?

I hope the wait isn't much longer. Wave 1 was good, not great. But it did leave me excited for more.

Still keep my eyes on the DLC as I still busy with other games.

I've been wondering where these are. Sure seems like if they're going to do 48 course they should be releasing them every few months.

That’d be right on track for an update every four months through 2023. Mar/July/ Nov, repeat.

Though obviously Nintendo’s never been keen to consistent rhythms with their releases 😛

I always like having an excuse to revisit MK8D and playing the first wave with my sister the day they came out was a magical experience that'll be great to replicate again (and then 4 times after that I suppose!).

What are the 8 tracks everybody is hoping for the most in the next wave? For me, I'm gonna say:

•Waluigi Pinball •Maple Treeway •Airship Fortress •3DS Rainbow Road •Mushroom Gorge •SNES Mario Circuit (for nostalgia) •Luigi's Mansion or Banshee Boardwalk •Bowser's Castle N64

That's just 8 off the top of my head that I would love to see. The last have any datamines to support them, and I know both cups are likely going to have at least one Tour track. But in my dream scenario, these 8 would make me very happy.

Double the number of courses but why not double the fun with those characters as well by incorporating a Double Dash Mode for the game. I would love that even if it's not free. Not only will that be fun but instead of 4-players simultaneous play, 8-players could ride together, four in the front and four in the back.

Hoping for some actual effort put in this time. First batch was an absolute travesty.

Hopefully this isn't merely just a hint about the release date of the next MK8 Deluxe DLC; we could also really use a full-on Direct for Nintendo's first-party games for the 3rd and 4th Quarters. With BotW 2 not coming till next year and Metroid Prime 4 in eternal limbo, there frankly isn't anything that qualifies as a true tentpole first-party release for the Christmas season for 2022 yet.

Oh yeah, and Nintendo...it's way past time for Advance Wars: Reboot Camp to get a firm and final release date. These games (which are pure escapism, and AW is as bright, cheerful, and cartoony as a "war" game can get) like AW (and, from recent revelations, the GoldenEye 007 reboot), getting delayed over the war in Ukraine was frankly never necessary even if done with good intentions, IMHO. Stop treating what should be an amazing introduction for so many gamers to not only the IP but turn-based Strategy in general (yes, the game has MULTIPLAYER for up to four players!) like a black sheep you never really wanted to give a chance.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a game that constantly gets played in our household, so some new tracks will always be welcomed.

The 7/11 thing was usually a pretty reliable tell for the Smash Bros. DLC so we're probably getting more info soon.

@AtlanteanMan When you have such long and plentiful parentheses segments, you should just consider rewriting your post and incorporating them in. It will make reading what you write less of a chore.

I certainly hope so, and I hope we get some Super and Double Dash tracks, since we didn't get any in Wave 1.

@Ade117 We need at least one SNES circuit of each kind in total.

I think we're gonna see a first and second party only Direct soon, and as part of it, wave 2 of the Booster Pass will drop on the same day. I think now that Smash is done, Mario Kart 8 DLC is kinda their ongoing DLC that they can keep fans eager for the next Direct with (not that they need any DLC, but since it's all retro courses, it can lead to some speculation of it's own that would drum up some extra general interest in their presentations).

Direct coming soon with wave 2 being dropped afterwards.

Oh boy, it’s Smash Ultimate all over again!!

Jokes aside, I’m really excited for this, but I may not get it just yet. I want to wait until wave 4 or 5 to download it so I can have more to play with when I download it, instead of having to wait a few more months to play. Unless, of course, they add Waluigi’s Pinball or Airship Fortress, those are my 2 favorite DS tracks

MK9 = MK8 Deluxe Deluxe Ultimate.

Nintendo Direct incoming? We haven't had one since February.

This is where the fun begins.

Cool. First round knocked it out of the park. Ninja course was very fun.

We also need more 8 battle tracks after all waves!

@Not_Soos Yes, Waluigi Pinball always comes first to mind for new courses, Mario Kart DS having a special place in my heart. All of my other fave courses have already been added, so no complaints there.

I know it's not happening, but I wish that they'd add additional drivers, like maybe Mouthful Kirby, Fox McCloud, or that rabbit from the badge arcade, and karts to go with them of course.

There's scheduled maintenance July 18 at 9pm Pacific.

I can wait, I just want more Mario kart!

I'm finding it a bit difficult to get excited for this honestly. I barely even played the first wave outside of clearing them for gold trophies.

Surely a "Deluxe" version should include all DLC.

I am looking forward to this. Hopefully some Double Dash tracks will be released , plus maple treeway and the one track of (wuhu island?) with the sunset. I don't own the DLC but thanks to NSO I can play it. My favourite new track is coconut mall.

@Moistnado oh but it did, when it was released it contained all the DLC that was released for Mario Kart 8.

These DLC's that we are getting now makes the game "Super Mario Kart Deluxe Ultimate" hahaha

@AtlanteanMan realistically, what else do you expect to release in Q3 and Q4 of this year?

Mario Strikers and Fire Emblem were June Xenoblade 3 is July Splatoon 3 is September Mario Rabbids is October Pokemon is November

Mario Kart DLC could realistically be July/August and November/December.

As far as I can tell, we need a Bayonetta 3 release date and Mario Kart DLC release date. And that's a full year in my view!

Bayonetta 3 will be a dedicated Direct. Mario Kart DLC will be Twitter.

As for a Direct...? I'd say September the earliest and that could be time for BotW2 update/title potentially date, and I suspect something Mario or Donkey Kong for next year.

Adding paid dlc to full priced ports from the previous generation is not a good trend for the industry, no matter which platform holder or publisher is doing it.

I don't like the way they are doing it though...I would like to know in advance which course are coming and look forward to that date I don't just want a ''here it is''

Also-what on EARTH is happening with Mario Strikers?? No announcements for updates for that one...many people have sold their copies out of frustration

@nocdaes Anything released before September will be old news by the time the Christmas season rolls around. Mario & Rabbids is a third-party title. Bayonetta and Splatoon! both have their passionate fans, but neither have the universal appeal to qualify as system-selling top-of-the-list releases. Pokémon is a huge IP but A) its appeal is far from universal and B) the Switch frankly already has an abundance of games from that franchise already. And honestly, DLC in any form doesn't count. 4th quarters traditionally center around the biggest and most popular first-party IPs, which in turn move consoles (this is looking at it from a corporate angle). The Marios, the Zeldas, the Halos, etc..

I'm not saying you're necessarily wrong; Luigi's Mansion 3 headlining Nintendo's first-party Switch lineup for the Christmas season a few years ago is a precedent, after all, and while a very good game it had nowhere near the "evergreen" clout of a mainstream Mario, Zelda, or even Animal Crossing (New Horizons' delay until the next year was what left LM 3 pretty much alone as their "big" offering for that quarter). But what's left of the announced first-party games for Switch in 2022 doesn't have the feel of a finished list; I suspect there's at least one unannounced title yet unrevealed, probably one of Nintendo's "core" IPs, even if simply a remake/remaster. And again, Advance Wars, while a "niche" IP, is still waiting on a release date and I doubt its fans want to wait indefinitely.

Maybe you're right and we won't see anything else of note till next year, but if so it's going to leave a lot of folks disappointed with the selection for the back half of 2022 from a first-party standpoint.

Not a fan of the drip feed of Mario Kart content. Would have preferred 2 to 3 waves altogether, releasing more content at once. You play through the new tracks too quickly.

It will be interesting to see the list of tracks that didn't make the cut when all is said and done. MK8D has the potential to have almost all the series best tracks!

Wave 1 was too mediocre besides Ninja Hideaway and the wait for Wave 2 has been too long, plus knowing these have all been done and locked away to drum up suspense over two whole years doesn't make things easier. I went from very excited during the announcement to completely lukewarm by how they're handling it, frankly I think the best thing to do is wait until they're all out before I play anymore so at least with any luck there are 4 or 5 more levels with Ninja Hideaway levels of quality sprinkled throughout the "meh" and "that's it??" filler to absorb all at once. If I'd known they were all ports of ports from the mobile game I wouldn't have dropped the cash so quickly, I feel kind of duped tbh and it's not from a lack of research, they just didn't release that info or make it very clear.

im not Really Excited After the fact they Ruined choco mountain not being like the n64 version and ruined coconut mall with the shy guy not moveing the car. up and down to hit people while they bump into him

I just want Waluigi Pinball and Wario Stadium 64

@AtlanteanMan I do agree with you, and I personally find the current slate lacks anything particularly exciting.

Nintendo will likely feel happy with it though, and they obviously also know next year.

Mario movie and a Mario game this side of 31st March and BotW2 landing around May would paint a very different picture.

Another game for this side of the holidays could be the much rumoured Metroid Prime remaster, but honestly, Bayonetta 3 if it really is still 2022 does hit a "similar" audience.

I'm still expecting a Switch Lite OLED to be announced, and again, whilst I agree Mario/Zelda would be the perfect accompaniment... it's difficult to argue against brand new generation Pokemon playing the role perfectly instead.

As ever, we will have to wait and see. Mario and Zelda in H1 2023 is not bad at all though.

@Vix Nintendo as a business has been an absolute travesty ever since Mario Tennis Aces released.

@calbeau I just want all the Mario characters that are already in Tour. Pauline, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Funky Kong, King Bob-Omb, Petey Piranha Plant, Kamek, Nabbit, Birdo, Dr. Mario, Captain Toad/Toadette, Luigi's Mansion King Boo... I need them all so badly!

@Not_Soos Ooh! Petey Piranha and King Bob-Omb, pretty please.

I'm excited for the next wave and I feel it's overdue.

@Not_Soos great picks! Waluigi pinball and rainbow road 3ds are musts for me

These DLC packs are great but I'd really like to see some new things added to the Mario Kart Home Circuit that Nintendo just up and forgot about.

I hope for more SNES tracks

Ik hope for -Luigi Circuit GBA -Wario Colosseum GameCube -Amsterdam Drift Tour -DK's Jungle Parkway

Luigi Circuit (MKSC) Luigi Raceway (MK64) Maple Treeway (MKW) Daisy Circuit (MKW) Daisy Hills (MK7) Koopa Troops Beach (MK64) Peach Beach (MKDD) Moonview Highway (MKW) Bowser's Castle (MK64) DK's Jungle Parkway (MK64) Sherbet Land (MK64) Rosalina's Ice World (MK7) Sunset Wilds (MKSC) Wuhu Island (MK7) Vanilla Lake (SMK) Riverside Park (MKSC) Lakeside Park (MKSC)

It's the 18th....please Nintendo!! How much longer will we have to wait?! 😂🤣

@Captain-N I love them all, would really be a dream list.. If I could change 1 it would be Koopa troopa Beach because it's been everywhere. But the rest is solid gold!

@Captain-N Where are Koopa Cape, Wario Shipyard, and Wario Colosseum?

I just want all of the Tour tracks specifically Vancouver Velocity and Berlin Byways.

@garfreek 19th now and still no sign of Wave 2. Frickin' Nintendo.

@Not_Soos plz dont disrespect my boy monty mole like that

@dkc_fan those are also great. Hopefully, those will make it in.

@garfreek Thanks. Those were off the top of my head.

need new maps for the battle games like coin runners, etc not just the racers

It still hasn’t released
